5 March 2010
Reminder - normal day of school on Friday 26th March. No NZEI teachers' union meeting this term. Wilford School uses “Choice Theory” as a basis for our school culture.
Most teachers have been working with their students on “Choice Theory” over the last few weeks. They have been looking at their basic needs and “Quality World.”
Glasser Choice Theory maintains that
· Our 5 Basic Needs are: Love and Belonging, Power (for ourselves, not over others), Freedom, Fun and Survival.
· All behaviour is made up of four inseparable components, acting, thinking, feeling and physiology which Choice Theory designates as Total Behaviour.
· People/students can become stronger and change their behaviours by taking responsibility for their own choices.
Quality is anything that we experience that is consistently satisfying to one or more of our Basic needs. We are always striving to bring more into our quality world: the people we most want to be with, the things we most want to own or experience and ideas and beliefs that govern our behaviour.
Ask your child to talk to you about their basic needs and quality word pictures. What are their dreams and aspirations? How can you help them achieve these dreams?

Scabies
We have had a case of scabies in our school. Scabies are caused by tiny insects which burrow in the skin and lay their eggs. It is passed on by skin contact. Small blisters form, surrounded by red patches – these are very itchy. Treatment is by special cream or ointment available from the chemist or on prescription from the Doctor. It is important that the child is kept at home for 24 hrs following the start of treatment.
